Luis I Carreras, Jr., passed away on June 17, 2017 in Houston, Texas at age 74 after a long and valiant fight with CLL - Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Luis is survived by his mother, Guadalupe C. Carreras, of Kingwood, and brother, Vicente Carreras of Lakeway, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Luis I. Carreras, grandparents, Francisco and Antonia P. Carreras, of Puerto Rico and Vicente and Josefina Cardenas, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Luis I Carreras, Jr., passed away on June 17, 2017 in Houston, Texas at age 74 after a long and valiant fight with CLL - Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Luis is survived by his mother, Guadalupe C. Carreras, of Kingwood, and brother, Vicente Carreras of Lakeway, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Luis I. Carreras, grandparents, Francisco and Antonia P. Carreras, of Puerto Rico and Vicente and Josefina Cardenas, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Luis was born on April 4, 1943 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Luis I Carreras and Guadalupe C, Carreras. He attended school in Miami, Florida graduating from Southwest Miami Senior High in 1961. He attended the University of Florida, Miami-Dade Community College and graduated from Florida State University with a BS degree in Medical Technology. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Luis advanced through the ranks of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was stationed at Ft. Hood, Ft. Sam Houston, Ft. Knox, and several other locations which included Korea and Vietnam.

Luis married Nancy Hall in 1982 and spent their entire married life in the Houston/Kingwood area. He worked at both St. Joseph and the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Houston retiring from the VA in 2005.

Visitation will be at Kingwood Funeral Home Friday, June 23rd from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and Rosary following from 6:00-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 24th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church, Porter, Texas.
